2016 Spring Troll Fisheries

Spring Troll openings provide trollers access to hatchery Chinook as they return in May and June. Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADF&G) management attempts to maximize the harvest of enhanced Chinook and minimize the harvest of wild and non-Alaskan (“treaty”) fish. Openings are set based on the percentage of Alaska hatchery fish in the catch for each area, with a limit of treaty fish for the spring season. This year there are 33 separate areas managed. Spring fishing also takes place in 5 additional terminal harvest areas (eg. Deep Inlet, Neets Bay). The majority of NSRAA’s Chinook troll catch occurs in these Spring fisheries, with lesser numbers in the Winter and Summer fisheries.

This page contains preliminary data for this year’s Spring fishery. It’s purpose is to provide a brief overview of the fishery and to show NSRAA contributions to the fishery.

You’ll find more complete information about the Spring fisheries on ADF&G’s website: Spring Troll Fishery Update.
